IESNYC Presents 2018 Section Awards

The Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section (IESNYC) presented its Section Awards during the 2018 Lumen Awards held on June 14, 2018, in New York City. Honors were given to four members of the New York City Section for their various aspects of service; the awards were as follows:

2018 Brilliance Award
Robert Prouse, FIES, IALD, Brandston Partnership
Presented by the New York City Section of the IES for dedicated service and contributions to the New York City lighting community.
Prouse is partner and president of the Brandston Partnership and has been a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers since 1977, where he has served on the Membership Committee, the Board of Directors, and as a judge for the Lighting Design Awards program. A Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), he has been “Lighting Certified” by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), and was the chair of their Body of Knowledge sub-committee.

An educator throughout his career, he has taught lighting design in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation of Columbia University; in the Graduate Design Department of Pratt Institute for; and most notably was the Director of the MA and MFA degree programs in Lighting Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York City for seven years, and was a member of the faculty for 27 years. He has served on panels for Lightfair, the Designers’ Lighting Forum, Lighting World International, and the IES. He is also the author of the lighting chapter of the current edition of Architectural Graphic Standards.

2018 IES Section Service Award
Nathalie Faubert, MIES, Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design (CBBLD)
Presented by the New York City Section of the IES in recognition of outstanding service of five years or more to the section that has significantly furthered the purpose of the society continuously in various programs and activities.
A senior associate at CBBLD, Faubert is known for her design, organization, and collaborative skills. In addition to her design work at CBBLD, she is an adjunct faculty member at the New York School of Interior Design, where she teaches lighting design. She is an active member of both the DLFNY and IESNYC, and is part of the volunteer team behind LEDucation. For the IESNYC, she is the founder of the “Moonlighting” event and exhibition that showcases the talents of members of the lighting design community.

2018 IES Meritorious Service Award
Clara Powell, LC, MIES, Cooledge Lighting
Presented by the New York City Section of the IES in recognition of outstanding service to the section, principally of a non-technical nature, that has significantly furthered the purpose of the society continuously over a number of years in various programs and activities.
Powell is a regional sales manager at Cooledge Lighting. She is a long-time volunteer for the IESNYC section, serving as the 2017 – 2018 co-chair of the Lumen Awards; from 2001 to 2003 she was the 84th president of the section. Her contributions have been felt “…in every strategic area of [the] New York City section and continues to contribute to the New York design and specification community in numerous ways.”

2018 IES Meritorious Service Award
Suzan Tillotson, IALD, MIES, Tillotson Design Associates
Presented by the New York City Section of the IES in recognition of outstanding service to the section, principally of a non-technical nature, that has significantly furthered the purpose of the society continuously over a number of years in various programs and activities.
Tillotson is founder and president of Tillotson Design Associates, and is a long-time supporter of the IESNYC always asking “How can I help?” She was an inaugural sponsorship campaign spokesperson for the section and serves as a mentor to emerging professionals and students in the lighting community.
