Seventeen winners representing nine countries were selected from a pool of nearly 200 entrants for the 28th annual International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Awards. The jury, consisting of lighting designers and architects, met for three days to search for projects demonstrating aesthetic and technical innovations that push lighting design to new heights.
The top project does just that. The Telekom Bridge pedestrian bridge in Bonn, Germany, by lighting design group Licht Kunst Licht AG, received the IALD Radiance Award with the highest score overall, in addition to its Award of Excellence for the project. (Telekom Bridge also won a 2010 design award from Custom Home’s sister publication, Architectural Lighting.)
Two custom residential projects also won recognition. The Glass/Wood House in New Canaan, Conn., with lighting design by Susan Leaming, Architectural LX, and architecture by Kengo Kuma & Associates, Tokyo; and the Art Collector’s Loft in New York City with lighting design by Richard Renfro, Renfro Design Group, and architecture by Amsterdam-based UN Studio.
