The American Institute of Architects has announced the second speaker to its main stage lineup for the 2019 AIA Conference on Architecture, which will be held from June 6–8 in Las Vegas. Ryan Coogler, co-writer and director of the Academy Award-winning film Black Panther, will speak at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. He will discuss the use of “diverse teams to bring a vision to life and how he made a film that’s become an important cultural touchstone,” according to a conference announcement.

Best known for his Marvel film, Coogler first gained fame for his 2013 Sundance Film Festival biopic Fruitvale Station, which depicts the 2009 shooting death of Oscar Grant. Since then, Coogler has gone on to direct Creed and Creed II as part of the Rocky series.

Coogler has been celebrated for his diverse casts and crews. In 2018, he was named on Time magazine’s short-list for person of the year.

Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani will deliver the first keynote of the 2019 AIA Conference on Architecture on Thursday, June 6.
