Architecture for Humanity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating sustainable, livable, and affordable architecture for communities in need, recently acquired the 7-year-old nonprofit journalism site Worldchanging and will merge that site’s content with its existing Open Architecture network under the Worldchanging name. Architecture for Humanity will debut a soft launch of the merged sites at its annual conference, Design Like You Give A Damn: LIVE!, on Oct. 21 in New York. The organization is requesting input from the architectural community over the next several months on how to make its newly expanded site into an interactive, open forum for presenting solutions for creating a sustainable future and ways to implement them.

Architecture for Humanity hopes to broaden the role of architects to include policy, social responsibilities, community building, and other issues. The group’s executive director, Cameron Sinclair, feels that the combined websites will help the organization fit into that expanded role by offering one place where other aid and development groups can go to find tools like successful case studies, management programs, and evaluative procedures. “We are thrilled to connect with the Worldchanging community in order to expand the ways we can continue to make a difference across the world,” says Sinclair in a statement to the press.
