The American Academy in Rome announced the latest class of residents on Tuesday. The one-to-three month residences are by invitation, and responsibilities include advising Rome Prize winners as well as producing at least one event, such as a lecture or exhibition.

The spring class includes three architects participating as a William Bernoudy Architect in Residence: David Adjaye, Hon. FAIA, principal of London’s Adjaye Associates; Jeanne Gang, FAIA, principal of Chicago- and New York–based Studio Gang Architects; and Craig Hartman, FAIA, a design partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Adjaye will be at the academy for two roughly one-month periods between May and July, Gang arrives in early May and stays through June, and Hartman’s residency begins in late May and runs through late June.

Also included in the latest class are Pentagram partner Michael Bierut (Henry Wolf Graphic Designer in Residence); Adrian Forty, an architectural history professor at University College London’s The Bartlett (Louis Kahn Scholar in Residence); American actor and playwright Anna Deavere Smith (Writer in Residence); Bruce Smith, an English professor at Syracuse University (William B. Hart Poet in Residence); David Stone, an art history professor at the University of Delaware (James S. Ackerman Scholar in Residence); Peter Struck, an associate professor of classical studies at the University of Pennsylvania (Lucy Shoe Meritt Scholar in Residence); and American artist Kara Walker (Roy Lichtenstein Artist in Residence). Funded by the Deenie Yudell Fund in the Visual Arts, artist William Kentridge will also be joining the academy for a few weeks beginning in April.
