The legislation is intended to promote energy savings and emissions reductions by supporting the use of energy efficiency technology in residential, commercial and industrial sectors. The AIA supports some aspects of the bill, but firmly opposes any effort to weaken the existing federal requirement to phase out the use of fossil fuels in federal buildings by 2030. Hiromoto is testifying on behalf of AIA based on her expertise in sustainable design strategies and strong understanding of needed improvements to U.S. energy policy to achieve climate goals in the built environment.

Last year, AIA launched a landmark initiative to drive climate action among the architecture profession. As part of this effort, AIA is calling on architects around the world to take climate action by committing to sustainable and energy efficient design.
