Actress and Humanitarian Ashley Judd to Give Keynote at AIA 2020 Conference on Architecture

Judd will speak about " her work as a social justice humanitarian, environmentalist, and political activist" on May 15.

The American Institute of Architects has announced a second keynote speaker for its 2020 Conference on Architecture. The Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress Ashley Judd will take the stage on Friday, May 15. During her keynote, 99% Invisible podcast creator Roman Mars will interview Judd in a conversation focusing on her work as a “social justice humanitarian, environmentalist, and political activist,” according tothe event’s website.

Judd has worked with global NGOs since 2004. She is currently the Global Goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund. She also serves as the leader in practice at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Mass., the global ambassador for Population Services International and the Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit Polaris Project. Judd is a founding member of Time’s Up, a movement against sexual harassment.

Judd has also spoken at forums like the London School of Economics’ Family Planning Summit, the Democratic National Convention, and the TIME 100 Health Summit 2019. Among the honors she has received for her social and humanitarian work, Judd was named the United Nation’s 2019 Humanitarian of the Year and chosen by the U.N. Secretary-General as 2019 Advocate of the Year.

Judd will be interviewed by Mars on Friday, May 15, at AIA’s conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Yesterday, AIA announced Off-White founder and artist Virgil Abloh will give a keynote address on Thursday, May 14. The 2020 AIA Conference on Architecture will take place May 14-16; registration is open now.
