When John A. Holabird Jr., FAIA, died in February at the age of 88, a piece of Chicago’s storied architectural past died with him. Earlier in his life, Holabird Jr. received a Silver Star for heroism in World War II, taught drama classes, and worked as a set designer for NBC and CBS.

residential architect covered Holabird Jr.’s vacation residence, designed by Kuklinski+Rappe Architects, in the June 2007 issue. Another related story, about a home designed by former Holabird & Root partner Gerald Horn, FAIA, appeared on pages 68-71 of the March 2000 issue.
