On Friday, approximately 1,000 trucks poured 9,500 cubic yards of concrete in the construction of Miami’s One Thousand Museum by London-based Zaha Hadid Architects. The luxury condominium tower is sited on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, opposite Museum Park. The project broke ground last December and is expected to be completed in late 2017.

One of only a few Hadid-designed residential towers—and the only one built in the Western Hemisphere—One Thousand Museum “is no less Zaha at this unprecedented scale,” wrote Joseph Giovannini in an ARCHITECT story in April 2014. Known for her sinuous designs, Hadid incorporates curving lines in the skyscraper’s white exoskeleton, contrasting with the crystalline façade, which is currently being fabricated in Dubai and shipped in 4,800 pieces to Miami.

The tower represents a line of research in high-rise construction that explores a fluid architectural expression consistent with engineering for the entire height of the structure,” wrote Giovannini. “The emphasis is on expressing the dynamism of the structure in an integrated whole that avoids the frequent typology of a tower resting on a base.”
