UPenn’s Levin Building Biomorphic Facade

SmithGroupJJR wins a lighting special citation for the innovative exterior for its new building at the University of Pennsylvania.

For this year’s AL Light & Architecture Design Awards, our sister lighting publication gave out a Special Citation to SmithGroupJJR for its Stephen A. Levin Building at the University of Pennsylvania for its “Façade’s Treatment and Modulation of Light.” Writes editor-in-chief Elizabeth Donoff: “Home to the departments of biology and psychology, the building is intended to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between the students and faculty members of those disciplines. The scrim’s ‘biomorphic’ patterns also advertise to the campus at large the study of neural and behavioral sciences within.” Read the full story at Architectural Lighting.
