Top 5 Small Projects

Residences Under 600 Square Feet

1 MIN READ

With all the talk about microunits and tiny houses, I thought I’d pull together some of my favorite very small projects that we’ve published in Residential Architect. I’ve chosen five dwellings, three of which are full-time residences. All are 550 square feet or less.

At 320 square feet, Candid Rogers’ weekend house in Marfa, Texas, also acts as a hands-on teaching tool for his students from the University of Texas at San Antonio. A remodeled Airstream trailer provides 160 well-designed square feet of live/work space for a California architect. Another live/work studio (shown at left) occupies 269 square feet in Eugene, Ore. And two New York City apartments—one 510 square feet, and the other a whopping 550 square feet, present creative solutions for storage and natural light flow.
