The organizer of the Annual Skyscraper Architectural Competition, eVolo, has announced three winners and 22 honorable mentions for this year’s iteration of the contest. The 25 winning projects were selected by the jury from 444 submissions. Established in 2006, the annual awards program seeks to recognize designs for their use of technology, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organization.
First place went to Pawel Lipiński and Mateusz of Poland for the Mashambas Skyscraper. This design aims to increase farming opportunities and reduce hunger in communities in sub-Saharan Africa.

Second Place – Vertical Factories in Megacities by Tianshu Liu and Lingshen Xie
The Vertical Factories in Megacities project won second place. Designed by the United States’ Tianshu Liu and Lingshen Xie, the project proposes moving factories back inside densely urban areas. megacities.
The third place winner (not pictured) is Javier López-Menchero Ortiz de Salazar of Spain for Espiral3500—a project that reimagines congested city life as a spiraling vertical building. The 22 honorable mentions include skyscrapers inside giant sequoias, villages implanted into Yosemite, automated plug-in cities, iceberg skyscrapers that reverse global warming, wind harvesting skyscrapers, and more.
