In the spirit of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw’s original Ragdale Ring Garden, built in 1912 for his playwright wife Frances who yearned for an outdoor space in which to perform, Ragdale’s artist residency has called upon the design world once again to construct a venue for its visiting artists. Now in its fifth year, the Ragdale Ring Project will select either a firm or pair of designers to create an original construction for temporary use at the 50-acre Lake Forest, Ill., site.
The final selection will be made by a jury of architects, artists, and scholars. The winner will receive a $15,000 grant to fund the construction of the design, as well as the assistance of a 10-person design/build residency that will run for 18 days from May 22 to June 9.
Past winner’s include design collaborative Sports, from Syracuse, N.Y., and and Chicago-based Design With Company (Dw/Co).
The submission deadline is March 3, 2017.
