Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation’s Award-Winning Daylighting

Our sister lighting publication selected the new Foster Business and Innovation building at Baylor University for its Best Use of Daylighting award in its 2017 AL Light & Architecture Design Awards. It was a brave choice to light the building primarily with the sun’s illuminance in the middle of Texas, but the lighting designers and architects balanced that with controlling heat gain in the building effectively. Writes AL editor-in-chief Elizabeth Donoff: “A collaboration between the university, architects Overland Partners, and lighting design firm Lam Partners, the goal was to provide as much natural light in the building throughout the year as possible without causing discomfort. The architects originally envisioned a north-facing, sawtooth, monitor-style roof.
