Contemporary international expositions thrive on spectacle, and the Milan Expo 2015 is no exception. More than 50 pavilions representing nearly 120 countries and economic regions will cover the 1.1 million-square-meter site through Oct. 31, featuring compelling design that explores each state’s relationship to food. The expo’s theme, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” asked participating countries and groups to consider how food is grown, harvested, processed, distributed, and prepared in their region, while addressing issues such as sustainability, scarcity, health, and negligence regarding food production.

From stacks of shipping containers to a luminous honeycomb, the designers behind the pavilions took creative approaches to exploring global issues related to food. Whether you’ve made the trek to Milan or have been faithfully following along online, our global tour of Expo participants, complete with photos and project information, gets you from Mali to Mauritania in a single click. Your feet will thank you.

Click around on the map above to see all of this year’s pavilions. Note: A few countries weren’t visible on the map, so we’ve linked to them here (Bahrain, Cape Verde, the Caribbean Community, the Holy See, the Maldives, Monaco, Palestine, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, and the Union of the Comoros).
