Lloyd Wright Studio and Residence, 858 N. Dohney Drive, West Hollywood, Calif., by Lloyd Wright

The Lloyd Wright Studio and Residence, a 2,413-square-foot duplex sited on 858 North Doheny Drive in West Hollywood, Calif., was designed and built by Lloyd Wright, the first son of Frank Lloyd Wright. Built in 1927, it served as both Lloyd’s personal studio and residence while he opened an office in Los Angeles in the 1920s to establish his own career and help oversee his father’s projects in Southern California, such as the Hollyhock House and Ennis House.

Similar to his father’s style of characterized stucco and concrete, this home’s block pattern features interlocking Joshua trees along the exterior walls. In the 1990s, the house was in a state of disrepair, but was restored and supervised by Lloyd Wright’s son, Eric Lloyd Wright, when he reestablished the foundation and replaced damaged exterior blocks. Additionally, the Los Angeles Conservancy holds a conservation easement that protects the exterior of the home and a statue in the enclosed patio that leads into the large workroom where Lloyd Wright would exhibit his work and home to potential clients.

The asking price listed by Aaron Kirman of the John Aaroe Group is $1,999,000. According to Curbed, video and commercial director Joe Pytka lived in the residence about two years ago, when it sold for about $2.5 million.
