fatty (n): dual-sided spatial partition with functional elements programmed into both faces.

fur (n): any landscape material used on a building project.

junk (n): any caffeinated beverage.

The LEEDS (n): shorthand for the USGBC’s LEED Certification Program.

Longbean (n): Money.

Precious (n): tightly radiused ¾ x 1½ steel tube, rarely stocked by American steel suppliers.

Radical Pragmatism (n): a design strategy emphasizing the unique potential of a constraint-based problem-definition process.

Reverse Abe Lincoln (n): a mechanized building detail that performs counterproductively when operated.

Sanctioned Meddling (n): a tendency to covertly incorporate benevolently mischievous constructions into unlikely civic situations.

sassafras (n): incomprehensible but intelligent-sounding design-related mumbo jumbo.

sazerac (n): any alcoholic beverage.

’sm (adj): gutteral vocal response denoting approval of someone else’s idea.

Sustainaffordability (n): a common sense sustainable design strategy that balances initial capital costs with long-term operational savings.

Whang (n): a desirable cantilever.
