HDR announced the addition of Kate Diamond, FAIA, as a design principal in the firm’s Los Angeles office. In her new role, Diamond will oversee design for civic, science and technology, and academic projects, as well as recruit employees, mentor teams, and focus on career development in the firm. Diamond will also partner with HDR’s engineering practice to focus on the delivery of sustainable infrastructure.

Diamond started out at her own firm, Siegel Diamond, in the late 1980s and has since worked as a principal at RNL, NBBJ, and HMC Architects. She has served on the National Peer Review Council for the GSA Design Excellence Program, instructed at the University of Southern California School of Architecture, and was the first woman president of the AIA Los Angeles chapter.

Her portfolio includes projects such as the LAX Air Traffic Control Tower, the Orange County Water District Laboratory, the Magistrate Courthouse in Bakersfield, Calif., the District Courthouse in Billings, Mont., and the District Courthouse of Los Angeles.

“I am thrilled to join a team whose diverse skill set, depth of expertise, and forward-thinking culture are unmatched in the industry,” Diamond said in a press release. “HDR is doing some of the most innovative design in the industry today, from cutting-edge laboratories to meaningful civic facilities to their dynamic healthcare consulting practice—all while maintaining their tradition of responsive client service and strong delivery.”
