Jane Duncan has been elected the next president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Duncan defeated rival candidate Oliver Richards, winning 52 percent of the vote. Duncan will become the organization’s 75th president and the third female president.
Duncan is the director of her eponymous firm based in Buckinghamshire, England. She currently serves as the RIBA Equality and Diversity champion. She has held a variety of positions in the organization, including chair of RIBA’s small practice committee, council member, board member, and vice president practice and profession.
Duncan will begin as president-elect, working with current president Stephen Hodder, Hon. AIA, on Sept. 1, 2014. She will then succeed Hodder as president for a two-year term on Sept. 1, 2015.
