HUD Increases Housing Assistance for Low-Income Adults with Disabilities

1 MIN READ

New money will soon be available to low-income adults with disabilities who are in need of housing assistance, announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development this week. Under reforms to Section 811 Project Rental Assistance, $85 million will be available to eligible state housing agencies that help individuals with disabilities find affordable housing.

The program aims to help those with disabilities to live independently within a community by providing them with subsidized rental housing and support services, HUD secretary Shaun Donovan said in a statement.

“HUD and the Department of Health and Human Services are also seizing the opportunity to support innovative state-level strategies to transform and increase the availability of affordable housing, matched with needed services and supports, that will help keep people with disabilities out of institutions and integrated into the community,” Donovan said.

The funds are expected to provide housing for approximately 2,800 people. More details, including how to apply for funding, can be found on HUD’s website.
