Vegetated Roofing Projects

1 MIN READ

PEOPLE: design/build and installer, F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing, MilwaukeeGREEN POINTS: Six sculptures sit amid this 10,000-square-foot (929-m2) vegetated roof that features sod rather than typical green-roof sedum. Because sod was used, an irrigation system ensures the grass gets sufficient water. The tapered roof system includes an electric field vector mapping layer as a way to check for leaks. This thin, foil-faced sheet is placed between the insulation and roof membrane and grounded to the roof drains. When activated, the mapping layer creates a low-voltage circuitry that can be monitored. Visitors encounter a garden setting that includes walking pavers and concrete planters.
