gehry house move update

1 MIN READ

ra first reported on plans to move a Frank Gehry-designed Winton Guesthouse from its original location in Wayzata, Minn., to the Owatonna, Minn., campus of the University of St. Thomas in September 2008. Due to the limitations imposed by Minnesota’s weather, however, work didn’t get underway until May 2009. We documented the spring and summer progress in a June update.

In the year since, the crew of Stubbs Building and House Movers have been hard at work disassembling the 2,300-square-foot house and transporting it piece by piece to the grounds of the university’s Daniel C. Gainey Conference Center.

To date, the house’s kitchen, fireplace room, and two bedrooms have made the trip. Yet to be moved are the living room and the pyramid-shaped tower, and then reconstruction can begin—weather permitting.
