The Sodern-Adler House’s name comes from the two previous owners, both whom worked with Wright: Clarence Sondern and his wife, and Arnold Adler and his wife.

In 1939, Wright designed a 900-square-foot Usonian house for the Sonderns. (The architect’s Usonian housing concept was his attempt to create affordable, yet innovative, housing during the Great Depression.) This original version included the den, library, kitchen, two bedrooms, and one bathroom, according to the Kansas City Star.

In 1948, the house changed hands to the Adlers, who commissioned Wright to design an expansion for the house. The addition brought the house up to its current 2,965-square-foot size and included a dining room, a living room, a bedroom, two bathrooms, a two-car garage, and three private terraces, according to the Star.

The ranch-style residence is constructed of tidewater red cypress and brick. The outdoor space features private patios, gardens, and a Koi pond on 1.4 acres of private land.
