The Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh Building, which suffered extensive damage during an accidental fire last May, has five contenders shortlisted to renovate it. The competing architecture firms will present their detailed proposals in March, with the winning entry announced at the end of the month. The U.K.-based firms include Avanti Architects, John McAslan + Partners, LDN Architects, PagePark Architects and Purcell. “All of the shortlisted practices have a strong record in undertaking major restoration and work in historic buildings together with an impressive commitment to the use of new technology and the finest craftsmanship,” Liz Davidson, the restoration project director at the Glasgow School of Art, said in a statement. The 1909 Charles Rennie Mackintosh–designed building mainly suffered damage in its west wing, which housed the school’s iconic library. The library was noted to be one of the most preeminent examples of art nouveau in the world.

The five firms’ renderings will be available at the end of March.
