Earlier this month, 20 New York–based architecture practices assembled to compete for the greatest architecture prize of the month—the Pritzkerpumpkin. To vie for the prize awarded by the Center for Architecture as part of its third annual Pumpkitecture! Architectural Pumpkin Carving Competition, contestants including Weiss/Manfreddi, SoftLab, and TEN Arquitectos assembled for 75 minutes of pumpkin carving with their own tools and materials in hand. (Brooklyn, N.Y.–based Situ even showed up with microwaves.)

After being reviewed by judges—chef and conceptual artist Laila Gohar; SO-IL co-founder and principal Jing Liu; Bompas & Parr Studio co-founder and principal Harry Parr; and Apartamento Magazine founder Omar Sosa—Alloy’s submission was awarded the Pritzkerpumpkin and Situ’s project was named the People’s Pumpkin. Six other pumpkins were given honorable mentions.
