On Friday, Facebook announced a new project near the company’s Frank Gehry, FAIA–designed headquarters. Designed with the New York office of Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), the new project—dubbed Willow Campus—will include housing, retail, a cultural/visitor center, office, and outdoor space.
“Working with the community, our goal for the Willow Campus is to create an integrated, mixed-use village that will provide much needed services, housing and transit solutions as well as office space,” writes John Tenanes, AIA, Facebook’s vice-president of global facilities and real estate, in a news post. “Part of our vision is to create a neighborhood center that provides long-needed community services. We plan to build 125,000 square feet of new retail space, including a grocery store, pharmacy and additional community-facing retail.”

OMA’s portfolio includes U.S. projects such as the Faena Forum in Miami Beach, Fla., the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in Dallas (with REX), and the Seattle Central Library. “It’s exciting to collaborate with Facebook, whose innovation in networking and social media extends to urban ambitions for connectivity in the Bay Area,” said OMA partner Shohei Shigematsu in a firm news release.
