REM/MinKyung Han and Marco Belloni

Developed by MinKyung Han and Marco Belloni, two architecture students at the Politecnico di Milano, REM is a limited-edition magazine consisting of five issues, each with 50 numbered copies, published in Italy from April until Nov. 23—the opening of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. Each magazine features two architects in a double issue, paralleling their interviews where they are asked to indicate one the fundamental elements within their own architectural research and work based off of the theme “fundamentals,” chosen by Rem Koolhaas, Hon. FAIA, the director of this year’s exhibition and founding partner of OMA. Through these interviews—which are conducted over Skype, email, or in person—the editors of REM will attempt to foresee the types of projects that will be shown at the next architecture exhibit, by tracking the analogies, differences, patterns, and recurring motifs mentioned by those interviewed. Published in both Italian and English, the magazines are supposed to be a continuation of the conversation between the public and those in the architecture profession, but also a reference guide for those aspiring to be a part of the design world. Right now, four out of the five issues have been published, which include interviews from Jo Noero, Peter Wilson of Bolles + Wilson, Philippe Rahm, Ugo La Pietra, Christian Heuchel of O & O Baukunst, Anton Garcia Abril of Ensemble, Smiljan Radic, and ELII.
