The Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts announced this week that it will support 49 projects that advance the field of architecture. The grants, which total $496,500, will help fund new and existing projects including museum retrospectives, site-specific artworks, documentaries, publications, and multimedia installations across the globe.

Twelve of the grants will go towards programs and exhibitions at the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial, which will run from Oct. 3, 2015, to Jan. 3, 2016. Those programs include an exhibition of David Adjaye, Hon. FAIA’s work at the Art Institute of Chicago; site-specific projects, inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House, created by artists Mary Ellen Childs and Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle; and a sound installation in the city’s Millennium Park by artist Olivia Block.

This announcement follows one In May, through which the foundation provided $495,350 in grants to help fund 63 projects proposed by individuals pushing the boundaries of the built environment.

The latest 49 projects were selected from a pool of more than 200 submissions. See some of those projects below, and the full list of recipients here.
