Eaton announced its 41st Annual Source Awards on May 7, 2018, during an awards luncheon at Lightfair, which took place in Chicago at McCormick Place. Hugh Herr, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was the luncheon keynote speaker. His talk, titled “The New Era of Extreme Bionics,” described advances in and his groundbreaking work in the area of Biomechatronics, technology that marries human physiology with electromechanics.

The Source Awards program, which debuted in 1977, made a significant change in 2018, repositioning the awards program to focus only on student work, [link: http://www.archlighting.com/industry/eaton-announces-2018-source-awards_o] and eliminating the professional level categories.

“The future of lighting depends on the next generation of designers. Our awards program is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their creative thinking and education to achieve real-world experience,” said Kraig Kasler, president, Eaton’s Lighting Division. “We are committed to nurturing future lighting professionals and look forward to seeing how the talented winners of this year’s competition will impact the lighting industry.”
