Website: Discover Design

Has your daughter or son ever complained about a lack of space in the school locker? Or maybe you’ve overheard the neighborhood kids chatting about their ideas for a new cafeteria for their school. (OK, maybe not that one.) The Chicago Architecture Foundation recently launched the website Discover Design to teach students about the design and construction of school buildings, and is now challenging those same students to put their pencils to paper. The website is a free educational tool where U.S. high school students can enter competitions to design new elements, such as a bike shelter, or redesign whole new areas, such as a library, in their schools. Students can upload projects, share ideas, and comment on each other’s work. • discoverdesign.org/discover
