Reshaping Residential Design: 6 Key Trends and the Influences Behind Them

From rusticated design to office-residential conversions, learn more about top architectural trends and the forces behind them.

2 MIN READ

In our travels across the country and around the globe, interior designer Kerrie Kelly and I pick up trends, design movements, and little shifts in the way we live. One of them is the rise of rusticated design. “We’ve seen this pronounced interest in older design styles,” says Kelly, CEO and creative director, Kerrie Kelly Studio. “At the end of the day, it’s about texture being preferred over those polished modern fixtures and finishes.” The trend corresponds with observations we’ve made in office-residential conversions, the influence of food and culture, sustainable processes, and more.

Join Kelly and me in this wide-ranging discussion and review of work that exemplifies six key trends—and how it’s informing the future of design. What’s the latest take on biophilic design? How is the idea of customization and individualization evolving? Will circularity become a more important aspect of sustainability? Find out in this Studio Session.
