This past summer, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., hosted a white sea-and-sand-inspired ball pit dubbed “The Beach,” designed by New York’s Snarkitecture. The summer before, Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) installed a massive maze called, fittingly, “BIG Maze.” (Watch ARCHITECT’s videos inside “The Beach” and “BIG Maze.”)
Today, the museum announced the latest firm to take the Great Hall stage for its “Summer Block Party” programs. New York City–based James Corner Field Operations will design some yet-to-be-revealed installation in the space in summer 2016. At this point, all we can do is speculate on what the firm behind New York’s famous High Line project (with Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Piet Oudolf) and Santa Monica’s Tongva Park is planning.
