Carl Galioto Leaves SOM for HOK

Carl Galioto, formerly a partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in charge of that firm’s Technical Group in New York and Washington, D.C., has joined rival firm HOK as a senior principal. Galioto will be the firmwide leader of HOK’s buildingSMART initiative, which seeks to integrate BIM technology with integrated project delivery (IPD) and new design tools. He will also chair HOK’s global project delivery board.

Known as an expert on BIM, Galioto has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and has worked on projects in sectors including aviation (terminals at John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty airports) and high-rise commercial (7 World Trade Center). He has also written and lectured extensively on the subject of building codes. Galioto is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
