Meet the Four Finalists in the 11th Street Bridge Park Competition

Teams of architects, landscape architects, and engineers connect their ideas for this Washington, D.C., park to projects they have completed in the past.

At an event last week, the four design teams remaining in the 11th Street Bridge Park Competition shared their portfolios and explained their approaches to this project, which is sited on the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. The competition, launched in March by D.C.-based nonprofit Building Bridges Across the River at THEARC (Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus) and the District’s Office of Planning, is an effort to convert an existing bridge into an elevated park. One of the project goals is to unite the two neighborhoods of Capitol Hill and Anacostia, in what some call a “long-divided city.”

Each of the teams will receive $25,000 stipends as they begin developing their ideas into designs, due Sept. 9. A public design exhibition will be held from September 24–October 11, with the winning design selected on October 15.

Here are the team presentations.
