Visionary Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is celebrating another architectural feat: transforming the Lego “brick” into a life-sized, architectural form. The succinctly named Lego House opened today in Billund, Denmark, and is already expecting to attract 250,000 visitors per year. The 130,00-square-foot building is built entirely from bricks that are modeled with the same dimensions as the classic building toy, which are then stacked to form its unique design. “Lego house is a literal manifestation of the infinite possibilities of the Lego brick,” said BIG’s founding partner Bjarke Ingels in the firm’s press release.
The facility will perform many functions. Some of it will be educational, with spaces such as museums and galleries. To reflect the spirited culture of Lego, “play zones” will also be available to children. Other amenities include restaurants, conference space, a Lego store,and a public square. The center will host both paid attractions and activities open to the public.
