Architectural critic Blair Kamin is taking a one-year leave from the post he’s held for two decades at the Chicago Tribune to study at Harvard University, where he was selected as the 2013 Arts and Culture Nieman Fellow for Journalism.
Kamin, 54, holds several high honors in the field including a Pulitzer Prize (1999), the George Polk Award for Criticism (1996), and the AIA’s Presidential Citation (2004). He holds a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a master’s degree in environmental design from the Yale University School of Architecture.
Kamin said in TimeOut Chicago that he hopes to return to his job after the year “refreshed and refocused.” Who, if anyone, will replace him during his fellowship is still unknown.
