Barcelona Hosts IALD Enlighten Europe Conference

The conference will take place Nov. 7 – 9 and feature a full lineup of lighting workshops and presentations.

The International Association of Lighting Designers will hold its Enlighten Europe conference Nov. 7 – 9 at the Hotel Pullman Barcelona Skipper. For conference registration information go to: iald.me/bcn18registration.

The Enlighten Europe program is organized around the theme “Bursting with Brilliance.” It will feature a day of workshops, walking tours, two keynotes, a student workshop, Lighting Cross Talk, and a variety of seminar sessions presented by lighting design professionals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Turkey, and India that are organized in three concurrent tracks—Art, Science, and Professional Tools.

The opening keynote will be given by Sandra Rey, CEO and founder of Paris-based Glowee, a company that “…develops a biological source of light, using the bioluminescent properties of marine micro-organisms.“ Danielle Feinberg, Director of Photography, Lighting, Pixar Animation Studios will deliver the closing keynote. Ms. Feinberg presented at the 2015 IALD Enlighten Americas Conference in Baltimore.

The workshops, which take place on Nov. 7, will address such topics as Qualitative Aspects of Lighting Standards, Interaction in Lighting, Storytelling narratives for communicating lighting, and Circadian lighting for elderly care project applications.

In 2017, Architectural Lighting was a Top Ten Finalist for Magazine of the Year from the American Society of Business Publication Editors' AZBEE Awards. In 2016, Donoff received the Jesse H. Neal Award for her Editor’s Comments in the category of Best Commentary/Blog, and in 2015, AL received a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
