On Feb. 1, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met) announced that Poughkeepsie, N.Y.–based artist and sculptor Huma Bhabha has been appointed to design the sixth site-specific installation for the Met’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. Titled “The Roof Garden Commission: Huma Bhabha, We Come in Peace,” the installation will be on view from April 17 to Oct. 28 at the museum in New York City.

According to the Met, Bhabha’s works address a variety of subjects, including war and displacement, colonialism, and memories of place. Her work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions, including MoMA PS1 in New York; the 56th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in Italy; and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland in Ohio. She is the 2008 recipient of the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum Emerging Artist Award and the 2013 awardee of the Berlin Prize, Guna S. Mundheim Fellowship in the Visual Arts from the American Academy in Berlin.

Last year’s commission, “The Roof Garden Commission: Adrián Villar Rojas, The Theater of Disappearance,” was designed by Argentinian artist and sculptor Adrián Villar Rojas.
