The Indiana Chapter of the AIA awarded seven Indianapolis-based architect firms with statewide design awards during the AIA Indiana + Kentucky Convention. The awards, determined by a panel of judges from Chicago and Milwaukee, were given in categories of new construction greater than $1 million, new construction less than $1 million, and preservation/adaptive reuse/renovation as well as the 25-year award. Completed in 1981, Chicago-based firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill received the 25-year award for their work on Columbus City Hall, anchoring the city’s other municipal buildings that were already there and establishing a clear area for the municipal government and police department, for which it houses.
