The AIA and the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) have extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for another three-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2015. The two organizations are renewing their MOU—which has been in effect since 2009 and reinstated in three-year increments since then—and growing their current partnership to better serve members of both organizations.
NOMA is an organization made up of regional and student chapters committed to fostering dialogue about the challenges and discrimination faced by minority architects, while leveraging diversity within the profession. NOMA will be relocating from its current base at the Howard University School of Architecture and Design in Washington, D.C., to the AIA headquarters, also in D.C., to further develop the relationship between the two organizations.
NOMA and AIA’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative will annually exchange observers to committee meetings and collaborate on joint surveys, reports, and position papers that have shared interest to the members of both organizations. Each organization will also continue to support attendance of officers at their respective national conventions. Additionally, the AIA will participate in and provide jurors for the annual NOMA Student Design Competition.
