AIA|DC is currently accepting submissions for its 2015 Washington Unbuilt Awards Program, which recognizes excellence in unbuilt theoretical and commissioned projects. The program is open to registered architects, landscape architects, associate architects, interior designers, and planners, as well as students in the Washington Metropolitan area. The competition’s winning projects will be featured in an exhibition at the AIA|DC headquarters— the District Architecture Center.
Entries will be divided into two categories. Theoretical Projects will examine exploratory work, such as research-based, hypothetical, or academic designs without a client involved. The Unbuilt Commissioned category involves all projects involving urban design, planning, public space, buildings, interiors, transportation infrastructure, monuments, and public art.
This year’s jury includes: Brad McKee, editor of Landscape Architecture magazine, Matthias Hollwich, AIA, a partner at New York-based architecture firm HKWN, and Karen M’Closkey, an associate professor of landscape architecture at University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design.
All projects must be registered and submitted in PDF format to the AIA Portal by 6 p.m. EST on Feb. 23. Entry fees are $150 per submission for professionals, and $40 per submission for students. The jury will convene to determine winners on March 26. Early submissions are highly encouraged.
