Research innovator / established performance-based standards for homes
Pioneer industry researcher with 25 years experience, including 20-year focus on sustainability making broad and direct impacts on the quality, performance, and numbers of sustainable homes built in the U.S. Developed builder protocols for energy efficiency and quality as well as use and installation of residential photovoltaic systems. Formed national research team (Building Industry Research Alliance) as part of DOE Building America Program, building prototype homes 40% to 90% more energy efficient than typical performance. Currently working with California production builders to design and build zero-energy homes and communities.
- Helped develop infrastructure for home energy rating systems (HERS), which is the performance basis of majority of sustainable building programs.
