Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD) announced the launch of the Richard Rogers Fellowship, a residency program for architectural research to be held in Richard Rogers, Hon. FAIA’s Wimbledon House, in a news release issued today. In 2015, Rogers and his family gifted the property—which he and his then wife, Su Rogers, designed for his parents in the late 1960s—to Harvard’s GSD as a base of research and architectural study in the heart of London.
The Richard Rogers Fellowship is an open, international competition that invites candidates with at least a Bachelor’s degree in architecture to apply for a three-month residency and a cash prize of $10,000. Six fellowships will be awarded annually, with the Wimbledon House serving as a venue for lectures and events, beginning in 2017.
The inaugural selection committee for the Richard Rogers Fellowship features Rogers himself, and includes Ricky Burdett, director of LSE Cities and the Urban Age Programme at the London School of Economics; K. Michael Hays, Harvard GSD’s Eliot Noyes Professor of Architectural Theory; Ivan Harbour, senior partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners; Hanif Kara, co-founder of AKTII and professor in practice at Harvard GSD; Mohsen Mostafavi, Intl. Assoc. AIA, dean of Harvard GSD; Farshid Moussavi, professor in practice of architecture at Harvard GSD and principal of Farshid Moussavi Architecture; and Patricia Roberts, executive dean of Harvard GSD. The Harvard GSD is now accepting submissions to the Richard Rogers Fellowship. The deadline for submissions is November 28, 2016.
