ASID Announces Scholarship and Award Winners

Professionals and students of interior design have been honored in ASID's annual scholarships and awards program.

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has honored five interior design professionals and students in its annual Foundation Scholarships and Awards program, which recognizes the contributions and academic achievements of ASID members and non-members.

The 2010 award and scholarship recipients are:

  • The Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award(recognizing outstanding interior design research or thesis project by an undergraduate or graduate student; $1,000)—Liliana Custy, for the project “Transdisciplinary Teams and Aging in Place Design: The Interior Designer’s Role.”
  • The Joel Polsky Prize(recognizing outstanding academic contributions through literature or visual communication; $1,000)—Susan Winchip, LEED AP, for the project “Visual Culture in the Built Environment: A Global Perspective.”
  • The Yale R.Burge Competition(a portfolio award for final-year undergraduate students; $750)—Stephanie Isaacs, for a student portfolio that draws from subcultures associated with art, music, and history to explore the juxtaposition of graphic form, color, and texture within a space.
  • The Irene Winifred Eno Grant(providing financial assistance to those engaged in creating an educational program or interior design research project dedicated to health, safety, and welfare; $1,000)—Michelle Kiese, student member ASID, for the Delridge Neighborhood Development Association project, which aims to bring healthier lifestyle options to low-income residents by redesigning local corner markets.
  • The Dora Brahms Award(to encourage and support historic preservation or restoration studies in educational institutions; $1,500)—Clarissa Carr, student member ASID, University of Florida, for her documentation of the Seneca Boston-Florence Higginbotham House’s interiors.
