Cree LR6 LED Luminaire Takes Home Silver

1 MIN READ

Cree’s LR6 LED recessed downlight received a Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the EcoDesign category. The LR6 consumes just 12W of energy, which is 85 percent less than a traditional incandescent bulb and 50 percent less than a compact fluorescent, according to the manufacturer. The IDEA program, started in 1980, recognizes design excellence in products, packaging, ecodesign, strategy, interaction design, research, and concepts. Designers, students, and companies are welcome to submit entries. In 2008, out of 1,517 entries, 35 were awarded gold, 77 received silver, and 93 won bronze. Announced in July 2008, the winners receive coverage in BusinessWeek, and an awards ceremony will be held in September 2008 at the Industrial Designers Society of America conference in Phoenix. Information about the IDEA program can be found at www.idsa.org/IDEA2008.
