Today, The American Institute of Architects revealed the winners of its 2023 Small Project Awards, recognizing eight works in the U.S. and one in Costa Rica that demonstrate “the value and design excellence that architects provide regardless of the limits of size and budget,” according to an AIA description of the award. This year’s honorees fall into one of two categories: small projects that could total as much as $2.5 million in construction; and small projects, architectural objects, works of environmental art, or architectural designs that are under 5,000 square feet.

The jury for the 2023 Small Project Awards included chair Chandra Robinson, of LEVER Architecture in Portland, Ore.; Madhubala Ayyamperumal, Assoc. AIA, of Gensler in San Francisco; Chris Baribeau, AIA, of Modus Studio in Fayetteville, Ark.; David Corban, AIA, of David Corban Architects in Naples, Fla.; and Katherine Hogan, AIA, of Katherine Hogan Architects in Raleigh, N.C.
