Dewey Thorbeck

Dewey Thorbeck, FAIA, FAAR, is based in St. Paul, Minn. He holds architectural degrees from the University of Minnesota and Yale University and is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. An award-winning architect in private practice, Thorbeck has authored three books on rural design. His work has been published nationally and internationally and has received more than 30 awards. To him, the making of place is rooted in the human spirit and forms the basis for architecture. The spirit of a place exists in the feelings that people generate about it. A beautiful building can evoke an emotional response, but a beautiful building that is also a part of nature is poetic.
