The independent lighting consultant: Is there real value? Much effort within the U.S. lighting industry has been focused on preserving and promoting independent lighting consultants. In the most obvious example, members of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) are prohibited from selling or installing lighting equipment. What are the pros and cons of such a policy? Given the economic climate, is this still the most effective way to promote quality lighting design? Architects: Are you committed to using only independent consultants?
