Known for his playful touch and unconventional forms, modernist British architect Will Alsop completed just one residential project before his death in 2018—and it’s on the market. Located on Munnion Road in Ardingly, a village in West Sussex, England, the 1,026 square-foot, single-story residence features three bedrooms and is listed for £475,000 (approximately $623,573).

Although the Munnion Road house was originally completed as a midcentury bungalow in 1960s by an unknown architect, Alsop designed an addition for the house in 2016 for an episode of the Channel 4 TV series, Ugly House to Lovely House with George Clarke. Working with the current owners, Alsop reconfigured the residence, adding a 405-square-foot kitchen and living space and relocating the bedrooms to the front of the house. For the new space, Alsop designed a barrel-vaulted ceiling with exposed pine beams, aluminum, and a series of porthole windows. The Munnion Road house also contains two bathrooms, a wood burning stove, and a light-filled kitchen.

Alsop was born in Northhampton, England, and graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London in 1973. Throughout his career Alsop founded six firms and created renowned projects such as the Sharp Centre for Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto. In 2000, Alsop received the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Stirling Prize with German architect Jan Störmer for their work on the Peckham Library in London.

Will Alsop’s Munnion Road residence is listed by London-based real estate agency The Modern House.
