Responding to high interest in Europe regarding Cradle to Cradle (C2C) concepts—the model for sustainability created by chemist Michael Braungart and architect William McDonough, FAIA—and in how to apply them to buildings, Dutch publisher CEO Media BV has released Cradle to Cradle—Criteria for the built environment (€14.95/$20.17).While many interpretations of the C2C design framework have been published, this new booklet is billed as the authorized version. Braungart, co-founder of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, teamed with Douglas Mulhall, senior researcher at Braungart’s Cradle to Cradle academic chair at the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions of Erasmus University, to write the guide for planners and design practitioners.

Cradle to Cradle—Criteria for the built environment provides guidelines for implementing C2C concepts in structures in a way that maximizes the beneficial economic, ecological, and social impacts, rather than simply minimizing negative impacts. The booklet is available in print or as a downloadable e-book direct from the publisher.
